Organizational Structure

The OALA is governed by an elected and appointed Council comprised of 15 members representing Full Members, Associate Members, Educators from the Universities of Guelph and Toronto, student representatives form the Universities of Guelph and Toronto, and the general public though the lay councillor.

The Officers of the OALA are the President, Past-President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Together they form the Executive Committee.

The Council and Executive Committee structure are governed by the OALA Act and the OALA By-laws as amended by Council.

The Organization is supported by three staff comprised of the Administrator, Registrar and Membership/Program Co-ordinator.

The committees and board representatives are drawn from Council and the membership at large.

All Councillors, committee members and board representatives are volunteers of the OALA. Their service is vital to the running of the Association.

CE Breakfast Seminar: Being an Expert Witness

Stuart Zacharias, a Partner of Lerners LLP in Toronto

Stuart will outline the challenges of Expert Testimony in this Continuing Education Breakfast Seminar. According to Stuart, “Expert evidence plays an important role in the civil justice system, but it can be a minefield for the unwary. Courts are increasingly strict in enforcing the requirement that experts provide unbiased opinion that assists, rather than distorts, the fact finding process. This requirement and the other rules that govern evidence are critical to such evidence serving its intended purpose”.

There can be significant pitfalls in being an Expert Witness, and it should not be taken lightly. The realities and challenges of being an Expert Witness are similar regardless of your particular expertise. Stuart will be able to provide advice to all of our members who may currently be an Expert Witness or those who might be interested in venturing into being one in the future.

Every April the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) celebrates World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM). The purpose of WLAM is to bring national recognition and awareness to the profession, landscape architects, and works of landscape architecture in Canada. One of the key communication tools of the month long celebration is the CSLA World Landscape Architecture Month poster. Each year the CSLA sponsors a poster competition to select a winning poster design to be promote WLAM. Enter the poster competition for World Landscape Architecture Month 2012!
