Implementing the Southern Ontario Seed Strategy through Nature-Based Land Management

  • Wednesday, March 05, 2025 · 12:00pm - 1:00pm

Today’s landscape architects are adopting nature-based land management practices to enhance biodiversity and foster healthy communities. Central to this approach is the use of native plants and seed, yet there is a shortage of ethically collected, source-identified native seed in Southern Ontario. The Southern Ontario Seed Strategy (SOSS) addresses this by increasing the availability of genetically appropriate native seed and promoting resilience and reconciliation. In this presentation, Carolinian Canada will present recommendations from the SOSS and highlight the key role that landscape architects play in the journey of scaling up the supply of native plants and seed to set a course for restoration and stewardship of the land in the spirit and practice of reconciliation and highlight key findings from the 2024 report The Economy of Hope: Growing Healthy Landscapes in the Greater Golden Horseshoe in Partnership with Native Plants.
