Join us for a webinar that explores the transformative potential of public spaces in promoting justice, equity, diversity, and inclusivity in landscape architecture. In this session, researcher Homa Heyadat will delve into how landscape architects have responded to the historical exclusion of marginalized communities through the prioritization of inclusive public spaces.
Homa will share her research on the Iranian community's utilization of public spaces in Toronto’s North York area. Through comprehensive field studies, Homa examines the profound impact of place naming, social interactions, and physical characteristics on the Iranian community's identity, sense of belonging, and social relations. Notable spaces such as Iranian Plaza and Mel Lastman Square are assessed, highlighting their role as central hubs for cultural associations and placemaking.
