Municipal Outreach Committee (Secretary)
Location:
- Meetings held remotely by OALA teleconference
- Chairs, or OALA Executive Director may request an in-person meeting, as required
Time Commitment:
- MOC meets once a month, with breaks in summer months
- Meetings are set by the Chair and OALA Executive Director, based on committee members’ availability.
Key Responsibilities of the Role:
- Responsible for recording minutes at the monthly meetings.
- Raise the profile of the landscape architecture profession, to both large and small municipalities.
- Promote the OALA and profession to Municipalities, specifically responding to OALA’s Strategic Plan and committee mandate. Identify municipal issues, which Landscape Architects should be responsible for and can provide solutions, as municipal staff, or as external consultants.
- Produce promotional materials and articles pertinent to Municipal targeted periodicals.
- Promote a partnership with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO).
- Assist OALA in pursuit of the Provincial Landscape Architecture Practice Act.
Requirements, Beneficial Skills and Interests:
- Experience, an interest and contacts in Ontario Municipal Governments and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), as well as understanding of municipal issues, would be beneficial. Knowledge and understanding of protecting the public interest and safety, in executing capital infrastructure.
- Eligible for Full, or Associate membership in the OALA, lay persons with experience in municipal governments, or AMO would also be an asset. Private OALA consultants who regularly work for developers, or municipalities would be beneficial.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to define key messaging on the value of landscape architects in municipal works, their role and services, both as staff and as external consultants.
- The OALA seeks equity, respect and diversity, in the committee’s membership.
- The OALA notes typically committee size consists of approximately 6 to 8 members.
