A great majority of the trees we see in our cities today started out in our tree nurseries. These nurseries supply the stock, species and varieties that then become available for municipalities, landscape architects, non-profits and conservation authorities alike to grow their future urban tree canopies. The quality and quantity of stock available can impact a region’s ability to deliver on planting promises to achieve equitable canopy cover goals. However, there are limited avenues to coordinate tree purchasing needs with supply chains that are restricted in their ability to speed up production (i.e. you can’t grow a large balled and burlap tree in three months!).
In this webinar, Rhoda deJonge will discuss the challenges faced by tree purchasers and tree producers alike and provide an overview of solutions for more integrated planning to assure that the diversity of quality trees are produced in numbers required to achieve our canopy goals.
