Indigenous Knowledge, Protocols, and Respectful Relationship Building

  • Wednesday, June 17, 2026 · 12:00pm - 1:00pm

This pre-recorded webinar, presented by Jordan Jamieson, will provide participants with a foundational understanding of Indigenous Peoples in Ontario while offering practical guidance for respectful and meaningful engagement. The session will begin with an introduction to the diversity of Indigenous Nations in Ontario, including First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities, and will explore key historical and contemporary contexts that shape relationships today. Participants will then be introduced to Indigenous protocols, including respectful communication, cultural considerations, territorial acknowledgements, and the importance of understanding local community practices and expectations.

We will also focus on how organizations, institutions, and project teams can respectfully welcome Indigenous Peoples into projects from the earliest planning stages. Discussion will include approaches to collaboration, co-development, reciprocity, and creating culturally safe and inclusive spaces. Finally, participants will explore strategies for building authentic, long-term relationships with Indigenous communities rooted in trust, accountability, consistency, and respect.
