Workshop: Invasive Phragmites in the North Bay Area

Location: Shrine Club, 1260 Brookes St, North Bay, ON P1B2P1

The focus of this workshop is to introduce invasive Phragmites and encourage action on monitoring and management. Invasive Phragmites is considered one of Canada's worst invasive plants causing significant impacts to the economy, environment and society in Ontario. While found across the province, the North Bay area is on the leading edge of invasion, where approaching eradication is achievable.

This workshop is presented by the Ontario Phragmites Action program, a provincial-wide initiative to facilitate a coordinated and collaborative approach to invasive Phragmites management on a landscape-scale. We will cover an introduction to invasive Phragmites, its impacts, pathways of spread and management options. We will also provide an overview of the Ontario Phragmites Action program, including training, guidance and funding options. Then we 'll dive into some of the local initiatives that are ongoing.

This in-person workshop is free of cost and taking place on Wednesday, Nov 18, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Weather dependent, there may be an option after the workshop to drive over to Laurier Woods to look at invasive Phragmites in the field.
