Claude Cormier (1960–2023) was one of Canada’s most influential and beloved landscape architects—an audacious, joyful, and deeply human designer whose work forever transformed how people experience public space. Through his Montréal‑based practice, Claude Cormier et Associés (CCxA), he redefined the role of landscape architecture in the city, blending art, urbanism, humour, and cultural expression into places meant to be shared, celebrated, and loved.
While much of his legacy is rooted in Montréal, Claude Cormier’s influence reaches well beyond the city. In Toronto, parks including Love Park, Berczy Park, Sugar Beach, and HTO Park remind us of Cormier’s devotion to designing public spaces that invite delight.
This waterfront bike tour honours Claude Cormier by moving through the very parks that embody his design philosophy. Experiencing them by bike, as a connected sequence of public spaces highlights not only their individual character but also their collective contribution to Toronto’s evolving waterfront and public realm. The tour offers a moment to reflect on how Cormier’s work continues to shape the way people gather, play, and find joy in the city.
Love Parade! is both a celebration of these remarkable landscapes and a tribute to a designer whose work reminds us that public space can, and should be poetic, inclusive, and unapologetically joyful.
