Event Recap

The 2024 OALA Ripple Effect Conference, held on October 17th and 18th in Niagara Falls, was a resounding success, bringing together landscape architects and professionals for two days of inspiration, education, and connection. This year’s theme, Ripple Effect, explored how even the smallest actions can create lasting impacts on the well-being of our communities, highlighting the powerful role landscape architects play in shaping sustainable, resilient, and thriving environments.

The conference kicked off with a L.A.R.E. prep session and two engaging tours around Niagara Falls: Historic Oakes Garden Theatre and Rainbow Gardens Tour and the Environmental Stewardship Tour. Followed by the much-anticipated Awards Reception at the Niagara Power Station, where the achievements of our colleagues were celebrated in a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere. The second day featured a full slate of educational sessions, covering a wide range of topics like Biophilic Regenerative Design, Transforming left-over remnant spaces into green public amenities, Transformations in Park Design and much more.

Delegates shared in the post-event survey how much they appreciated the opportunity to gather in person. Many expressed a desire for more space to experience all the sessions, a testament to the high value placed on the diverse range of topics and speakers. The conference format of 1.5 days—tours and reception on day one, followed by a full day of educational content on day two—was also well-received, with attendees noting that it struck a perfect balance between learning and networking.

The conference was sold out, reflecting strong interest and great attendance, underscoring the importance of this event within the landscape architecture community. Thank you to all who attended, contributed, and made the 2024 OALA Ripple Effect Conference a memorable and impactful event.
