Members granted Emeritus status are Full Members of OALA who have ceased full time practice. Emeritus members are entitled to all the privileges of the Full Member – Retired category but shall not pay membership dues.
Emeritus candidates are retired members that have made significant contributions to the profession and the Association during their career. Candidates for Emeritus Membership must currently hold the status of ‘Retired Member’ (refer to the OALA Handbook for definitions).
Only candidates holding ‘Retired Member’ status with the OALA for a minimum of 1 year will qualify for nomination.
The Nominator must be a Full Member (in any subcategory) of the Association (refer to the OALA Handbook for definitions).
Two additional endorsement letters, one that shall be from a Full Member, are required as part of the submission.
Nomination letters are to provide a brief written summary of the reasons for the candidate’s nomination and outline the accomplishments and significant contributions the nominee has made to the profession and/or the Association.
The appropriateness of the nomination is based on:
Outstanding contributions will generally be considered as those that are above and beyond that which is normally provided by a member of the profession, and which is of Provincial significance.
A complete professional resume of the nominee must accompany the nomination.
Emeritus membership is judiciously bestowed upon Retired Members of the OALA by the Association.
Submissions are reviewed by the OALA HAP Committee for compliance with Emeritus Membership qualifications.
Final selection and granting of OALA Emeritus Member status is subject to a vote in Council.
Nominations for Emeritus membership, not granted in the year applied for may reapply in a future year for consideration with an amended application.
Posthumous candidate nominations are not considered.
